 Ignorance In Iraq
 { The Senseless Slaying Of Nicholas Berg }

 Ignorance is usually an easy thing to spot. The young healthy kid who 
 chooses a life of crime. An earnest but stupid janitor, in over his head, 
 with an almost brand new Mercedes parked just outside his front door. 
 The perpetual rentor with the great job who is either just too lazy to 
 research purchasing a house or a condominium, or he fails to do so 
 because he just doesn't give a damn. Either way, putting someone else's 
 grandkids through college with your hard-earned money is just plain 
 ignorant.

 There are also other kinds of ignorance. The kind that places people's 
 lives in danger. The hot-tempered Type-A personality with the lead foot, 
 zooming around on a crowded interstate. The junk yard operator who 
 empties barrels of used motor oil -- wayyyyyy out back. Oil that eventually 
 finds it way into the water table. If that isn't frightening enough of an 
 example, how about the cheerleader mom who plots the murder of some 
 young cute thing, because that young cute thing cost her child a spot on 
 the high school cheerleading squad. 

 Yes, ignorance can have deadly consequences.

 American contractor Nick Berg was murdered in Iraq the other day. His 
 execution videotaped for dispersal around the globe via the internet. And
 as this most uncivilized action by so-called Fundamentalist Muslim terrorists
 has grave implications. The root cause is merely good old-fashioned ignorance. 
 Of course, with a dollop of evil thrown in for good measure. These Muslim 
 fiends might as well have been wearing Nazi uniforms or KKK hoods. It 
 doesn't matter. They are just a stupid lot, brainwashed  into believing that 
 terrorist acts such as the slaying of Western civilians will somehow bring 
 the world's last remaining superpower to her knees.

 And in turn earn them hero status amongst their own kind.

 Do these fools really believe that when Western cameras aren't 
 around,  Muslims actually cheer what happened to Nick Berg? That 
 decent followers of that faith, don't recoil in abject horror that the rest 
 of the civilized world will believe that Islam is no better the insanity that 
 was on that video?

 The calculated creation of fear within a populace is a powerful weapon 
 evil-doers have utilized for centuries. The Vikings created terror and fear 
 with their rampages. And so did Ghenghis' band of bloodthirsty marauders. 
 But there is something funny about human beings. People may be overcome 
 by fears for a while, but they won't stay that way for long. Nicholas Berg's 
 murder may cause Western foreigners in Iraq to be more certain of their 
 surroundings. And to take nothing for granted. But, Iraq is a desperate 
 country. And her needs are great. Other  Nicholas Bergs will come. And 
 not just from America. There is a vacuum in Iraq. A nation needs to be 
 rebuilt. -- And as everyone knows nature abhors a vacuum.

 And as for Nicholas Berg's executioners? They are just hapless thugs 
 yielding a knife. They are without tanks. Without planes. They haven't 
 even a rag-tag army at their disposal. These murderous cowards hide in 
 the shadows, forever afraid of the daylight. They exist on the very fringes 
 of society.

 We have seen their kind before. These sick men are sociopaths operating 
 under a Jihad fantasy.

 In a word. -- Ignorant.
