What Did Arnold Say? Should Conservatives
 On The Far-Right Care?

The year was 1977. And Arnold Schwarzenegger was but an
"aging" twenty-something { age is relative } who still had not
yet, quite made the big time. In the sense that he had not yet
crossed-over from the rather limited world of "body-building"
 to mainstream Hollywood.

In 1977 most people might have been familiar with the "Mr. Universe."
competition. But, Ah-nold was not yet a brand name all its own
In that long-ago world Arnold Schwarzenegger gave an interview
to skin magine "Qui" where he described his involvement in a
group sex encounter with { in Arnold's own words } "a naked
 black girl."

In this same magazine interview Arnold freely used a derogatory
term for male homosexuals, that he described as "...fighting the
same stereotypes that bodybuilders are..." "....I have absolutely
no hang-ups...though it may bother some some bodybuilders, it
 doesn't affect me at all."

Does this rather plain-spoken 30 year-old interview have any
significance now? Or is it much ado about nothing?

As with most things political. People will read what they want to in
Arnold's thirty-year old conversation. Those who like Arnold will
see the interview as the rather inconsequential youthful ramblings,
of a man still in the process of developing his social and political
 bearings.

Those out there who dislike Arnold will fixate on the group sex
with the "naked black girl." And the apparent lack of a well-developed
sense of morality in Arnold during those early years. Afterall, group
sex is something { to this day } people whisper and joke about, but
most Americans have never  - and would never want to - become
 personally involved in.

So, there is indeed much in this interview to digest if one is to
seriously consider Arnold Schwarzenegger as something more than
an actor. Afterall, the interview is part of the public record of a man
who has ambitions for a high political office. An office that affects
the lives of millions of people.

The run for governor was a big step. Which also begs the question.
Why is Arnold qualified for political office? -- More so, than say,
Ariana Huffington or a Peter Ueberroth? Both of whom have been
involved in the national political discourse for many a year.

Does Arnold get a pass because....

 He's wealthy?

 He's married to a Kennedy?

He has big names in the Republican Party ready to do his
 bidding?

Because he's only running for political office in "California?"

 Because the media loves him?

Ahhh, I think we've stumbled upon something.

The "Qui" interview has merely brought the fact home. Made it
 more clear.

Conservatives are out to win in California at any cost. If Arnold
Schwarzzenger is going to be their guy.

 Two very important points:

1.) Conservatives still accept the candidacy of an individual who has
admitted to sexual activity well outside the mainstream. Thirty years
removed or not. { does it make a difference? } Can one imagine the
outcry on Conservative talk radio stations if Arnold were a Liberal
candidate admitting to past group sex activity. Or God-forbid, if the
candidate were a woman admitting to the same!

2.) Arnold Schwarzenegger's views on abortion, domestic rights for
gays, immigration and environmental issues, are in many respects,
diametrically opposed to the stand of most Conservative Californians.

 Why then, do the Conservatives { in California and across the nation }
turn a blind eye to Arnold's seeming incompatibility with their mission?

Should Arnold Schwarzenegger actually razzle-dazzle his way into the
Governor's Mansion on the basis of his box-office popularlity. And
without addressing the moral ambiguity of his admissions in that old
"Oui" magazine interview. Then this California governor's race may be
a defining moment in American politics for years to come.  -- And
Conservative Republicans { on a roll now.... } may well live to regret
 their supposed good fortune.
