 Janet Jackson's Naked Breast
 { What's The Fuss? }

February got off to a rousing start this year. Not only was
the "actual" Super Bowl game more than equal to the hype.
The world was granted a quick flash of Janet Jackson's
 succulent brown booby.

 Whoopee!

Despite the fact that half of the audience didn't even fully
comprehend what had happened when Justin Timberlake
purposely { please don't argue this point } ripped off part
of her bodice at the end of their half-time show. The
predictable cries of moral outrage have arrived at a warp
 speed pace.

And just as predictably the big shirts at CBS, Viacom, and
MTV are scrambling all over themselves trying to back away
from this debacle of their own making.

"Bad, bad Janet. Don't you realize a proper lady doesn't do
such indecent things... Why can't you behave yourself like
that nice Beyonce who sang the national anthem before the
game. Shame, shame, shame on you..."

This whole circumstance is almost too rediculously stupid
to be believed. Did it really happen? Did Janet Jackson actually
bare her breast on national television before an audience
of { presumably } kids, mothers and fathers, young teens,
grandparents, etc. Did she and Justin Timberlake think this
 outrageous routine would be okay?

What in the world were they smoking?

This is AMERICA - not Europe where the societies are
so much more culturally sophisticated about such things.
Over there they are probably laughing hard once again at
those stuffy, sexually-repressed Americans. Just as they
did during the entire "oral sex in the White House" situation
with Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinski.

Janet undoubtedly disappointed a lot of people.-- But
in her defense, they are mostly old fogeys over forty
 "who just don't get it." { she's thirty-seven herself, btw }
In fact, the entire Super Bowl broadcast was tainted by
numerous tasteless and crude commercials, all with a
 strong sexual undertone.

Can't today's most prominent advertisers come up with
imaginative ways to promote their products that don't
include an endless parade of sexual double-entendres
that are out of place during a "family-oriented broadcast."

Gee, where are those cute "California Raisins" when
 you need them.

"I heard it through the grapevine..."

This is the cultural milieu we find ourselves in these
days. The "b-word"is constantly repeated on daytime
soap-operas. { it's okay, the children are in school -
aren't they? } Most of the sitcoms on the air today
make the old Bill Cosby sitcom of the 1980's look as
quaint and irrelevant as 1950's Ozzie and Harriet.

Late night talk show conversation frequently degrades
into musings about thongs, tattoos, body piercings,
girl-on-girl kissing, first-time sexual experiences and
other crudities. -- And we're talking broadcast television.
 Not cable.

America can be a terribly provincial nation. A nation
who thinks that her moral values are second to none.

But where to draw a responsible line?

Although, a naked breast flashed for barely a half-a-second
is hardly a national crisis. Janet's "act" didn't happen in
a vacuum. There is a lot that is bad on television these
 days.

But don't be deceived by those "who doth protest
too much." All of this self-flagellation that's coming
from CBS. As well as the cries of  "investigation,
investigation," out of the mouth of the FCC's Michael
Powell is just a lot of hot air.

And in case you haven't noticed, get ready, because
the politicians on Capitol Hill are also lining up to
get as much gain from this situation as possible.

They all need to just sit back down and rest themselves.

Standards are set in the living rooms of America. Not
in some boardroom in Washington, D.C. When the
people who are in charge of the remote start changing
the channel, the big shirts in the big offices over at
CBS, ABC, and NBC, will get the message.

The government has more important things to do than
to waste a lot of time and expense investigating Janet
Jackson's breast. -- Why aren't the politicos in Washington
as indignant about some of the Bush administration's
 shenanigans?

Hmmm, but let us think abour Janet and Justin again.
A strip-tease act doing the Super Bowl. Shame. Shame.

 Who's brilliant idea was this?

And where in the world do they find these people?
