 Iowa State's Larry Eustachy - The Party Coach
 { An Incredible Display Of Bad Timing,
   Bad Judgement, And Bad Taste }

 There is so much wrong with the world of collegiate basketball 
 that adding more bad news is almost like piling on. -- Pardon, 
 that's football expression. NCAA football has its own troubles. 
 But that's a story for another day.

 The lastest college basketball scandal involves Iowa State's
 Larry Eustachy. That's right, the same Larry Eustachy who 
 in recent months brazzenly stated that it would be fair if college 
 coaches { many of whom have million dollar contracts, not 
 to mention lucrative shoe deals, etc... } were allowed to 
 contribute funds out of their own pockets, directly to their 
 ballplayers, so that these athletes could enjoy a better quality 
 of life.

 Anyone who has ever served time in college - no pun intended
 - or who doesn't come from a wealthy family, can probably 
 recall countless nights dreaming about just one slice of warm 
 pizza. Or a cheese steak with the works. Such is the life of the 
 typical college student with poor finances. And to think that 
 even athletes who earn their schools millions of dollars in 
 revenue have to suffer these same night hungers is astonishing. 

 So, at least college athletics had Larry Eustachy to thank for 
 reopening that debate in a dramatic way.

 But, as with all human beings...there is apparently another side 
 to the Iowa State coach. After a January game against the Missouri 
 Tigers { a game in which Iowa State lost } Eustachy went to 
 the apartment of a Missouri basketball player. A party at which 
 there was plenty of booze. And beautiful young women.

 Whooo boy!

 Incredibly Eustachy was photographed with a beer can in his
 hand. Which is damaging enough. But he was also photographed 
 kissing { on the cheek } and being kissed { on the cheek }by 
 some of the young female students in attendance.

 Now, there is certainly nothing wrong with being kissed by
 a pretty young lady at a party. If you're another student. But, 
 how in the world could a college basketball coach allow himself 
 to be caught in such a compromising and morally questionable 
 circumstance.

 This was an example of bad judgement taken to an extreme level. 
 Clearly, a firing offense. The first time it happens. And there are 
 rumors that this is the second party incident with coach Eustachy. 
 At an earlier party in January 02 it is alleged Eustachy exchanged 
 words with a 19 year old student who in terse terms demanded 
 of the coach. "Get your arm from around my sister."

 Bad. Very bad.

 Again...the incident is its own best evidence of the Iowa State
 coach's incredible lack of judgement and foresight. No parent 
 of a college-aged child sends his or her offspring to school to 
 be groped or kissed by a person in authority. Such as a Larry 
 Eustachy. Conduct of this kind is clearly across the line.

 Iowa State Athletic Director Bruce Van De Velde has suspended 
 coach Eustachy. He included a suggestion that the coach be fired.

 The school should take the hint and fire the party coach. The 
 students at Iowa State deserve the benefit of the doubt. Not 
 this guy.
