Looking
Backward At The King Of Pop: Michael Jackson

It is only with the greatest
since of sadness and extreme disappointment
that we must once again
broach the tiresome subject of Michael Jackson
and his seemingly never-ending
personal/legal troubles. But because
of the severity of the
charges this time around, and in light of Michael's
continuing worldwide
celebrity status, his current situation does indeed
merit discussion.
Let us be clear on one
point, as we begin. Michael's career is toast.
Fini.
It matters not if the
charges are fraudulent, or mostly a desperate
and personal
attempt by a district attorney to "get the one" that escaped
judgement the first
time around. And certainly the charges if proven
true, will mean that
Mr. Jackson is likely to be sentenced to many,
many, years behind bars.
We will not publish the
graphic details of the charges that Mr. Jackson
faces this time around,
neither will we publish the details of the alleged
acts that caused a settlement
back in 1993, and were the basis for his
first encounter with
the criminal justice system. But, let us note that
any sexual acts with
an underage person
{ by their very nature } are
vile, sickening, and
disgusting, { not to mention criminal } whether
the underage person
is of the same gender or of the opposite sex. So
the behavior that Michael
Jackson is alleged to have been involved in
with an underage boy
is extremely disturbing to contemplate.
Is Michael truly gay?
How many famous people in the entertainment
industry, the arts,
hollywood, sports, academia, politics, or for that
matter, just plain everyday
life have been gay. There are homosexual
people in the world.
It is a fact of life.
But is Michael's alleged
sexual orientation the only point at which any
discussion about the
man can begin - or end?
It is one thing to have
a sexual orientation the world disapproves of.
But it is quite another
to be so emotionally ill an individual that you
make yourself over into
some androgynous human entity that is also
racially ambiguous,
and ambiguous as to chronological age. Michael
in truth looks like
some fragile, pale-faced, Victorian doll.
Surely this is not the
person he imagines himself to be? A helpless
marionette on a string,
at the mercy of his own cursed musical talent.
What happened to the
Michael we used to know 30 years ago? How
did he get to the awful
place that he finds himself now? Was he literally
the goose that layed
the golden egg. It is not a stretch to imagine the
"Jackson Five"
as merely, "Michael Jackson and Company." Or "Michael
Jackson and Those
Four Other Guys." -- He was that talented. And
clearly the focal point
of the "Jackson Five" during those trailblazing
early years.
But, was he so valuable
a commercial commodity that his increasingly
"odd behavior" as a
teenager was trivialized or ignored by both family
and friends. Or was
the only "real" Michael the one up on the stage?
Mr.Wonderful with the
eager, exuberant voice, and the fancy footwork,
that drove the audiences
wild!
In the meantime, is it
to much to imagine that perhaps Michael - the
individual - never had
his emotional needs met.
It is only speculation,
and of course, the public can never really know
what happens within
a family, or between intimates who may or may not
be related by blood.
But
did there never come a point to those closest
to Michael Jackson
that "he" as an individual should come first? Not his
musical career. Not
the potential bank he could earn for Motown or any
other record company.
Was there never a time for an intervention of some
kind? If Michael had
been encouraged to walk away from the industry for
five or ten years so
that he could have discovered the beautiful person
trapped inside. Would
that have been such a horrible thing?
These are the serious
questions that deserves answers if the truth is
ever to be known, as
to how such an enormously talented individual
could lose his soul
so completely, and perhaps irrevocably. For what
use is all the riches
in the world, if you are so emotionally damaged,
that you can't enjoy
them?
So now we must wait,
as undoubtedly the rest of the world will wait.
The criminal justice
justice system often moves at a glacial pace. Especially
when the case involves
a big name. Will the molestation charges hold?
Can there be a possible
settlement? Or will Michael, in the end, be adjudged
guilty, and led off
to jail in handcuffs where a hell more horrible than he,
or any of us could hardly
imagine. His new reality may become a universe
of the macabre. A dark
place full of never-ending terror and fear.
No one wants that fate
for Michael Jackson. But if he is in truth a man
who is a danger to childen.
Then the harsh years ahead will be the result
of his own actions.
-- Yet even the most disinterested and impartial of
persons on this matter,
will be left to wonder that the many greedy souls
who lined their pockets
with the gold that Michael earned for them. And
who so willingly ignored
the warning signs of his emotional unraveling
that were there for
all to see. What a pity it will be that these individuals,
won't be residing in
that excruciating hell right along beside him.
