 It's been about a week now, and I guess it's okay to go
 outside again. The sky has not fallen and conservatives
 were not able to turn the latest Washington "sex scandal"
 into a media event.

 Unless we're all living in a "Twilight Zone" kind of reality, 
 the relevation - if you can call it that - that John Fitzgerald 
 Kennedy had yet another "girlfriend" in the White House, 
 is just too old of a story to generate much juice.

 But, the details are certainly there. A philandering Chief
 Executive. The first Catholic President. Camelot. And all
 of that classist nonsense. Those press boys back in the 
 1960's didn't know what a genie JFK was. He could have
 kept them busy for weeks, and weeks, and weeks. 

 But, maybe they did know. It was a different world back
 in the early 60's. Every private detail of a politician's life 
 wasn't splashed across the front page of the daily newspapers
 such as can happen today. And there were no vindictive
 special prosecutors sniffing around to dig up dirt against
 political enemies. No internet to dump trash like the Starr
 Report onto an all too pruriently interested public.

 No, those were different times. A President full of "amore"
 was not to become a national obsession. The evil Russians
 were down in Cuba causing trouble. And up in space -- 
 At least those creaky satellites of there's were up in the
 dark blue yonder. "Onward to the moon!"...became America's 
 new battle cry.

 And what of the 19 year-old intern that was Kennedy's 
 lust? Her name is Marion Fahnstock. She's in her late middle
 years now. A woman of sixty. A church administrator. 

 She doesn't have much to say about JFK, outside of 
 simply admitting that the affair did indeed take place.
 Perhaps the past is too painful for her. Or could it be
 that she is not a publicity seeker?

 What a classy lady she must be. Because America is such 
 a strange place when it comes to attitudes about sex and 
 relationships. Americans hate sex. It is ugly and bad. And
 yet Americans love sex. To talk about it. To whisper harsh
 rumors. To have it! A fortune could be made if Marion claimed
 abuse or harrasment. Doesn't she realize that a President
 was just impeached because he "defiled" the Oval Office?

 Perhaps Marion is a logical thinker. She must surely 
 acknowledge that wherever there are human beings, 
 there will be sexual activity. For good or bad, this is 
 simply the way of things. It is a part of our human-ness. 

 Sex is both pleasure and sin. 

 Perhaps the victim role is one that Marion is too old to 
 assume. She's far past that now.

 But, enough speculation about the quiet Marion Fahnstock. 
 May she return to her private world. And to her good 
 church work. And maybe John Fitzgerald Kennedy and 
 his pals Marilyn, Bobby, and MLK, can rest in peace, again.
