 "George W. Bush, Were You Absent Without Leave?"

  Okay, Okay. It's only February. The election is many months away.
 And we really don't even know yet, who the Democratic nominee 
 will be. But, if it is John Kerry. The Democratics have lucked upon 
 an issue that has those old mean-spirited G.W. supporters in a snit.

 Was G.W.'s stint in the National Guard just the same kind of sham 
 that all those rich, priviledged, college boys used to avoid going 
 to Vietnam and actually engaging the enemy? Clinton found a way
 to avoid the war, also. But Bill isn't running this year. -- John Kerry 
 did go. And he is turning out to be a force on the campaign trail.

 Likewise, as a military man John Kerry wasn't just some run-of-the 
 mill soldier. Kerry became a "genuine" war hero. He has the medals 
 to prove it.

 G.W. isn't a "real" war hero, is he? --- Noooooo, he just plays one 
 on television. Landing on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln, 
 and prancing around in a flight suit is not quite "real" hero stuff. 
 But, it did look impressive in a staged, "Hollywood-ish" kind of 
 way.

 Oooops, "Hollywood." That's not a place conservatives like much. 
 Too many liberals, there. Don't take the association personally, G.W. 
 But, here's a word of advice. Your speech writer let you down. When
 you landed on the aircraft carrier and stated "mission accomplished."

 You were wrong. People are still dying in Iraq -- a year later.

 We understand your camp really, really wanted the screamer - Howard 
 Dean - to eventually win the Democratic Party nomination. But, 
 unfortunately he imploded in front of the world, and well, that was 
 that. The Dean campaign is officially toast.

 So now G.W. your best move is to pick a fight with a decorated 
 Vietnam War veteran?

 Bad idea.

 G.W. this is an issue you just cannot win. John Kerry is a war hero.
 You are not. He fought in Vietnam. You did not. While you were in 
 the National Guard { allegedly, that is... } down in Alabama, hiking 
 leisurely through the hills, or sitting at a desk "training." John Kerry 
 had already returned home after having ducked thousands of live 
 rounds during his tour of duty.

 Oh, and that picture of John Kerry and Jane Fonda together at an
 anti-war rally. { damn, wasn't Jane a nice lookin' babe back in the 
 day...} They weren't even friends. Lots of young people were 
 torn over the legitimacy of the Vietnam war. They went to the 
 rallies to hear strong voices of opposition to the spiel that was 
 coming out of  Washington, at the time.

 Isn't that what American democracy is all about? That opposing
 voices are allowed to be heard?

 And lo-and-behold some of those veterans who fought bravely
 in the Vietnam war actually became politicians themselves. "God, 
 what a wonderful country is this..."

 And just in case you get the wrong idea, G.W. Our appreciation 
 of Jane Fonda's youthful beauty doesn't in any way excuse her 
 for going to North Vietnam. She was wrong to do that. But, it was 
 something she did of her own free will. 

 So cut out this trying to link John Kerry with Ted Turner's-ex, 
 just because he was captured in a photograph with her at a long-ago
 anti-war rally. Not only is the implication rediculous. It's lame as 
 well.

 Better find another issue, G.W. Something like "protecting the
 sanctity of marriage" from the great gay onslought. Gee, that's 
 one you born-again conservative Christians can really rally around. 
 Nothing like a little religious indignation to fire up the masses.

 But, besides dividing the country with your "down home in Texas"
 style of compassionate conservatism, what is it that you've actually
 accomplished during your term, Mr. President? 

 Iraq is a mess. General Musharraf of Pakistan has been lying to 
 your face about his country's export of nuclear know-how. The 
 economy is sputtering. And Mexico is sending all of her jobless 
 north. "What borders you talkin' bout, Senor Presidente!"

 Vicente Fox is making an absolute mockery of the border partol, 
 G.W. What are you going to do about that?

 The Presidential campaign of '04 is looking like it might be a bit
 more challenging than you imagined, G.W. You could actually lose 
 and end up a sad one-term President just like your father.

 Not that your losing wouldn't make all of us true-blue liberals, 
 ecstatic. We want you out of office. The sooner the better.

 However we prefer a fair fight. So whatever you do, G.W. Know 
 your strengths, as well as your weaknesses.

 Maybe it's best to stop this pissing match with the Kerry campaign 
 over military service. Trying to impugn Senator Kerry's record as a 
 Vietnam War hero makes YOU look dumb-witted. And only raises 
 additional questions as to why you made the decision to stay safe
 and secure in the U.S. 

 Instead of going overseas to fight in the war.

 If your campaign continues along this vein, G.W. There will soon 
 be more smiling democrats in Washington, than you'll know what 
 to do with.
